The old checkout process is out and the new is in via apps that can transform retail industry

The future of retail could well be upon us. Whereas self-scan checkouts have simply sped up the queuing process in supermarkets over the past five to ten years, a few new apps have recently emerged that aim to change the way we purchase offline for good. QueueHop is a new iOS app that uses Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID), which uniquely identifies the product.

This enables shoppers to scan their items as they go on their phone, without having to get in line and deal with the time-consuming tasks that the register station entails. To combat thieves, the app has an anti-theft apparel security tag incorporated into the system, which is actually where the scanning process takes place, via a QR code that's clearly labelled on the item.
