A new bracelet can monitor blood alcohol levels through your skin

The BACTrack Skyn is a wearable, alcohol-monitoring bracelet that acts like a breathalyzer, tracking blood alcohol levels through the skin. The device can sync with a smartphone app over Bluetooth, and warn the wearer when they’re approaching certain alcohol levels: when it becomes unsafe to drive, for instance, or alerting friends or family to a lapse in sobriety.

BACTrack uses an electrochemical sensor to track ethanol molecules that escape through the skin. Although most alcohol is processed within the body, the wristband can calculate and estimate the ethanol reading response into an estimated Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) reading. The device can provide approximate BAC readings as often as once per second, but like current breathalyzers, it can’t provide real-time blood measurements.
