New series of Dash buttons are able to coordinate tasks with IoT-enabled devices at home

Launched in 2015, Amazon Dash buttons allow consumers to reorder products via connected buttons that, when pushed, automatically add items to a shopper’s Amazon cart. Amazon’s newest Dash button goes beyond ordering products to trigger commands between internet of things devices. The AWS IoT button can be programmed to count items, start or stop a task, call or message a contact, or order a service.

The button, which runs on Amazon’s AWS cloud system, also coordinates with Slack, Twitter, Facebook and other platforms. For example, users can program AWS IoT buttons to hail an Uber or send a travel update to a group text.
