Communication experts from Snapchat, SwiftKey and Giphy share how they show <3 when SMS rules conversations

When you receive a text with a heart emoji, the message of love is already construed: you're not going to message back facts about the circulatory system. Instead, you might respond with another heart, or a snap of your face with graphic hearts plastered over your eyelids. You're almost certainly not going to respond with “heart valves were discovered around the 4th century BC.” In digital language, a simple <3 conveys the same as the word “love.”

In the The Power of Chat Debrief, PSFK Labs explores the ways we are turning back to the most basic messaging platform: text. And thanks to emojis and the like, a basic SMS can be playful and warmly welcomed.
