Focusbook aims to make your social media use quick and purposeful

Most people try to go totally cold turkey when they want to cut back on social media use, but developer Yonah Forst's Chrome browser extension Focusbook has a gentler (or more thoughtful) strategy: forcing you to explain why you keep checking Facebook through a small blue overlay.

After you type your explanation, you may only have a few seconds to finish your task before the menacing overlay reappears. It's reminiscent of methods used in cognitive-behavioral therapy, but the option of allowing the app to swear at you adds a bit of pizzaz. Now to develop a version for mobile that will put an end to our infinite thumb-scrolling.
