This prototype from Samsung helps surfers stay connected, even while out at sea

Samsung developed a smart surfboard prototype that could herald a range of connected sport technology in the coming years. They wanted to address a problem faced by professional surfers, who often feel disconnected while training for competitions due to the distance between them and their coach while they're in the water.

To try to change this, the company designed a Samsung Galaxy surfboard with a digital LED screen that could connect surfers to the world. Powered by a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, which slots into the board, it shows live conditions of the sea including wind direction and the height and frequency of waves. It also displays messages and tweets that keep the surfer in touch with their coach and fans to motivate them and help them improve.
