Tiny Robotic Kitchen Can Make Healthy Meal In Minutes
MIT students create kitchen that preps nutritious meals as fast as one orders junk food
Making healthy meals fast seems to be a food blogging myth—creating nutritious food quick enough to sate people after they get home from work or school. Spyce, however, may be able to make that a reality, as it can create a warm, healthy meal in minutes flat. The tiny robotic kitchen was created by Kale Rogers, Michael Farid, Braden Knight, and Luke Schluete, all undergraduate students at MIT.
It currently serves food in an MIT cafeteria, where it preps, cooks, and serves five different hot meals: shrimp andouille jambalaya, chicken-bacon sweet potato hash, winter veggie macaroni and cheese, chili lime beef and rice, and chickpea coconut curry over couscous. Diners can put in their order via smartphone or on a touchscreen by the machine, customize the ingredients, and place their bowl under the nozzle while the machine does the rest. It even self-cleans when it’s done to get ready for the next meal, though the restocking needs to be done by human hands.
