Electric table can cook, heat and chill dishes all at the same time

Kitchens and their various appliances have evolved drastically in the last few decades thanks to advancements in touch and electric technology. The kitchen table, on the other hand, has primarily stayed the same. The SmartSlab may change that by creating a space to cook and dine at the same time.

Created by design firm Kram/Weisshaar for the Iris Ceramica Group, this ceramic table can heat and cool different elements at once, so meals can be kept at the perfect temperature while drinks remain ice cold. Crafted in collaboration with SapienStone porcelain, the table premiered at Milan Design Week, where Massimo Bottura prepared a meal for 50 guests on the tabletop. Heating and cooling options are chosen by tapping and swiping the surface on a ceramic tile table top only six milliliters thick, so that the table in its entirety is only about two inches thick. The legs are made of carbon fiber, inspired by the factory in Modena, Italy where the two designers were inspired to create the table.
