The second round of products from 2016 NYCxDesign each are inspired by the out of the ordinary, whether it be a material, a behavior or a natural phenomena. These five example show what is possible when designers look beyond the expected and invent what we haven't seen before.

Silicon Rugs by Shore Rugs

London-based Shore Rugs creates hand woven floor coverings that can be used inside or outside. The chunky cord is a silicone-based material that is waterproof, UV resistant and non-slip. The company says the cushioning properties of their rugs can reduce fatigue at standing workstations and desks. (exhibited at ICFF)
