In a world where the marketplace and potential consumers continue to grow, the responsibilities of marketers also grow with these opportunities. As the Co-Founder and CEO of Percolate, Noah Brier has many thoughts on marketing and what is important when running a company. Percolate is a software platform for marketing, helping businesses to position their products and services.

Brier shared his insights with PSFK’s Founder and Editor-in-Chief, Piers Fawkes, in an interview at the PSFK 2016 Conference in New York. These are just a few of the takeaways from their conversation.

1- Brands mean trust. Although branding may be an overused term, it is the key to getting consumers to believe in a company’s product and services, and then remain loyal. Brier explains, “what a brand really does is allow you to sell products at a premium.” That is to say, if a company believes in the product or service it is selling, then branding is a way to solidify consumer trust.

2 – Strategy sets a foundation; it cannot be a strict plan. Good decisions are obviously what leads to a company’s success. He states: “strategy to me is how to make good decisions. A framework for decision making.” The point of strategy is not to set an inflexible plan for the future, but rather it is the groundwork for making all decisions to come.

3- Technology should take care of the small stuff. Although there is this belief that computers can somehow produce creative work that resonates with people, Brier disagrees. Instead, he believes that software should be used to take care of the less strategic work so there are more opportunities to open the creative side of work.

4 – Building creativity comes from the bottom up. Brier defines creativity as “novelty within a set of constraints.” He believes that rules need to evolve or else companies do not survive. Success is a constant process of analyzing and refining the rules within any company.

Business success is completely dependent on staying innovative and inventing new things in a competitive marketplace. Brier and Percolate empower marketers and branding professionals to take that one step further and show the world what a company can achieve.
