A new service is making it easier and more acceptable to send cash gifts to friends and family over the internet

Tendr is a digital cash giving service that bills itself as the Paperless Post meets Venmo: a less awkward way to send cash gifts for special occasions, complete with specially designed eCards.

Anyone can use Tendr to send or receive cash gifts—and rather than a percentage fee, the service will now charge senders a flat $3 fee to give (Tendr is completely free for the recipient).

Gift givers can send cash gifts accompanied by an illustrated eCard. The artsy, elegant designs are created by Brooklyn-based artists, and are accompanied by custom envelopes. Give givers can link payment to their bank accounts, credit cards or use Venmo, while recipients get an instant notification via email, and can see all their gifts received on one page, with an easy way to shoot back a thank you card.
