Location-aware app is building prizes into check-in process such as $10,000 dream vacation

Earlier this week, social app Swarm added Perks and Challenges, two new features to incentivize users to check in on the app.

Swarm Perks is similar to Foursquare's old ‘specials.' All the places running a promotion appear with a money bag icon next to the name. After selecting the location to check in, the app generates a barcode to scan at checkout and redeem the offer.

The other new feature is Swarm Challenges, which encourages users to check in at specific locations for a chance to win a big prize. The first is Swarm’s Summer Kickoff and the challenge is to check into three summer spots, like bars, beaches or pools in the next two weeks for a chance to win $10,000 toward a dream vacation. Future prizes will include photography gear, event tickets and more.
