The artist has adopted a technology to make venues truly phone-free spaces with special locking cases

In the hopes of enabling people to engage with what's happening around them, San Francisco startup Yondr is selling their lockable cases to popular venues.

Alicia Keys and other artists have been making use of the novel idea and have noted it works better than anything thus far. Instead of singling people out or depending on the audience to follow the “turn off your phones” rule, attendees are handed a pouch which automatically locks if inside the “phone-free” zone. If at anytime an individual needs to make a call or use their phone, they just have to step outside the zone and the pouch will unlock.
