Through a pairing of Roost's smart batteries and iOS or Android apps, homeowners can spot water damage without having to lift a finger

Unlike some of its smart home competitors, Roost is a less flashy, yet equally as efficient staple in the modern connected home. The company’s connected smoke alarms and smoke detector batteries have been instrumental in safeguarding countless homes from unknown fires, and now Roost wants to do the same for water leaks and damage.

The Roost Smart Water and Freeze Detector follows the company’s smart-battery model, wherein adding an IoT-enabled battery upgrades a standard fire detector into a connected device. In this case, instead of receiving alerts for smoke and fire, people will be alerted of water leaks, irregular temperatures and humidity levels by each element’s respective sensor. Place a battery in a damp corner of the basement or under a leaky fridge without an outlet, and the batteries will even alert you when they’re running low.
