An artist has created an entire project around peeking into the lives of oblivious strangers

Recently, a picture of Mark Zuckerberg set off dialogue surrounding privacy and internet security. His laptop’s camera was taped over, fueling concerns over internet surveillance. Artist Nye Thompson conveys these fears through her exhibit called Backdoored, which is comprised of pictures from unsecured webcams around the world.

Anyone can purchase a security camera that wirelessly connects to the internet. Presently, many do and choose to place them in their homes and workplaces. Although these cameras are usually installed for personal security measures, they can easily be accessed by others if strict measures are not taken. Thompson wants to raise awareness about the dangers of surveillance technology through her exhibit.
