Apple’s Patent Reveals A Stylus That Doubles As A Joystick And Air Mouse
The versatile digi-pen could be a unique tool for artists and designers
A recently released Apple patent envisions a three-function stylus capable of standard usage, being an air mouse and even serving as a joystick. Over the course of 17 patent claims, Apple outlines a versatile digi-pen complete with pressure sensitivity and six and nine-axis inertial sensors with which to provide gestural and tilt awareness.
Used on a touch screen, the stylus operates as one would expect, but when lifted off the surface, users can perform a whole new range of actions from flicks to other such movements. Firmly pressed back on the screen, the now-joystick controller responds to rotation, being used to turn digital dials and other likeminded implementations.
