The unmanned test vehicle from RoboRace is a preview of upcoming AI race models

AI car manufacturer Roborace is demonstrating its progress with the public unveiling of DevBot, a technology test mule for the upcoming robot race series. Using a modified WEC prototype sports car chassis, the Roborace team has fitted the same drivetrain, sensors, computation and communication systems that will be standard on the fully robotic versions of the competition cars.

The DevBot test mule can be operated in either manned or unmanned modes and is intended for the development to use it to test the working components on the car and the AI system that will drive it. The engineering team has been working on an accelerated schedule and produced this vehicle and drive systems in under 9 months. The DevBot was shown for the first time during a Formula E practice session at Donnington Park in England in late August.
