Billboard campaign calls out the media's obsession with commenting on women's appearance

According to Dove, since April 01, 2016, the media has exposed us to 99.1 million comments on a female athlete’s physical attributes. Dove wants to start a movement against this phenomenon through a campaign called “My Beauty My Say” that is spreading on social media with a hashtag under the same name. The campaign aims to explain the perspective of female athletes who are bombarded with comments about their appearance.

Dove is setting up interactive billboards in the cities of New York, Toronto and Los Angeles that will stream live comments made about female athletes’ looks. This exemplifies the heavy focus on the appearance of female athletes over how well they perform in sports. Social media is also being used to call out the media on their comments. On Dove’s website, visitors can respond to the media with a tweet by a click of a button.
