Athletes have been given special edition phones to promote the spirit of the games with friends and fans

The International Olympic Committee will partner with South Korean tech giant Samsung to provide a limited edition Galaxy S7 Edge to every competing athlete at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Games.

The special devices branded with the Olympic Rings will not only help athletes stay connected with friends and family while away from home, but“share their amazing experience at the Olympic Games,” said Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee.

The handsets will come pre-installed with custom Olympic wallpapers and user interfaces, as well as the IOC’s own “Olympic Athletes’ Hub” app, enabling competitors direct access to the IOC and its Athletes’ Commission, as well as all the other resources available to them. Samsung additionally helped develop The Rio 2016 App, the official app for athletes and fans to get real-time updates throughout the games.
