A Japanese company is trying to create an extravagant display for the next Summer Games in Tokyo

Japanese company Star-ALE wants to create an artificial meteor shower called the Sky Canvas light show for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The company will start launching a series of micro-satellites into space as soon as next year in preparation for the big show. Micro-satellites will carry up to 1,000 pieces of source particles pellets which will ignite when they re-enter the Earth's atmosphere like a dazzling meteor.

The display will be visible in area that spans 120 miles and is expected to be seen by approximately 30 million spectators. it won't come cheap: each man-made shooting star costs approximately one million yen (over $8,000), not counting the cost of developing and launching the micro-satellites.
