Strava will give the shoes to athletes who run the second half of their race faster than the first

Exercise tracking app Strava is aiming to motivate marathon runners by giving away free New Balance sneakers to those who run the second half of their next marathon faster than the first half (known as a negative split).

According to Strava, most marathon wins and course records are using this strategy. The company asked Coach Mario Fraioli to provide workouts to help runners train for their marathon and learn how to negative split like a pro.

Runners who complete the Strava Back Half Challenge will be able to claim the New Balance running shoes of their choice. Those who run a USATF-certified marathon between October 9th and December 4th, upload the race to Strava, and submit a link to that negative split Strava activity by December 12th along with an online form, will receive a code for a free pair of sneakers.
