Through the GE Kitchen app, people can remotely monitor wash cycles and rinse agent levels

As smartphones and smart TVs have become ubiquitous in mainstream culture for technology-driven consumers, General Electric has decided to tap the connectivity for use in a new appliance: a smart dishwasher.

With Wi-Fi Connect capability, these new dishwashers can be synced to users’ phones through the GE Kitchen app, allowing homeowners to monitor wash cycle times and statuses, and receive notifications if the machine is low on rinse agent or springs a leak.

While at the present the app doesn’t allow users to control their dishwasher completely by phone, GE has hinted at increased capabilities for their Wi-Fi Connect-enabled appliances in the near future, including voice control that’s compatible with Amazon Echo debuting in the fall.
