For any metropolis–’especially the imminent ‘smart city—’infrastructures need to be in place to ensure the area has an operational economy, and is both livable and sustainable. While the world has had plenty of time to figure out how modern cities can be managed effectively, Smart Cities are an altogether new concept that require further exploration. At the forefront of this novel urban planning mapping is a new collaboration between the EU and Japan, which looks to support the development and upkeep of smart cities with a cloud-based open data platform.
