Norwegian Kids Are Using Their Phones To Log Unsafe Street Conditions
Travel Agent is an app that gamifies the reporting of hazardous conditions to improve the safety of children's commute to school
Created by Oslo's Agency for Urban Environment, the Norwegian Centre for Transport Research and the Oslo City Teaching Agency, the Traffic Agent app allow primary school children to track the hazardous street conditions they encounter on their way to school using their mobile phones, enabling the city to prioritize the most effective road safety measures. As an added bonus, students who use the app can learn about road safety while inputting the route they take to school.
The Traffic Agent app pins the students' submissions of positive and negative feedback to an electronic map, allowing the agencies to focus improvement efforts where they're most needed. The app also collects data about students' individual routes, as well as statistics about students who travel in groups and whether they walk, bike or take public transportation to school.
