The work provides commentary on the increasing connection between programmed and analog dimensions

Setting the preconceived notions of pole dancing aflame, Genese is a futuristic dance routine that infuses real-time light design manipulation into performance art. The showcase is a near psychedelic fantasia which seamlessly melds dancer with environment through fluid movements and mind-bending geometries.

Since the light designs aren’t pre-recorded, there’s an air of spontaneity which radiates throughout the  routine, and underpins the tugging and pulling liaison of human and environment. The piece explores the relationship between the human body and digital space, and comes at a time when technologies such as virtual and augmented reality are gaining ground in the consumer tech world. And thought the entirety of the routine remains abstract, it raises interesting questions as to the growing intimacy between the physical and digital worlds.
