Stylish Composting Suitable For Apartment Dwellers
A compact ecosystem breaks down more than 2 pounds of raw waste per week, efficiently and odorlessly
The positive environmental impact of composting is staggering. Raw food waste that is able to decompose naturally takes approximately 1-2 months compared to raw food waste that sits in a landfill, which can take up to a year or more to disintegrate. According to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the Untied Nations, roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption gets lost or wasted every year, ultimately ending up in landfills. This results in needless greenhouse gas emissions contributing to global warming and climate change. BIONICRAFT, a biolab and design studio startup from Taiwan, is aiming to help solve this issue with a revolutionary household device that makes compositing possible and convenient for city-dwellers: BIOVESSEL.
BIOVESSEL, which recently launched as a Kickstarter Campaign, is an easy-to-use home composter that deals with raw food scraps by converting the waste into nutrients that feed new life. The process is propelled by earthworms, the soil’s microorganisms, and water in the composting ecosystem within BIOVESSEL. The entire system is a completely natural process that creates a self-sustainable ecosystem that is odorless and highly efficient.
Depending on the type of waste put into the BIOVESSEL, the ecosystem is able to break down 500g-1kg of waste per week.
The BIOVESSEL is a result of more than 20 months of biological research including observations and experiments on the process of food waste decomposition. It was created to provide a solution for raw food waste in urban homes in an effort to create a self-sustainable ecosystem that reverses the vicious food waste cycle.
BIOVESSEL is now available on Kickstarter at the Super Early Bird price of $149 USD. The campaign will run for 60 days with worldwide shipping scheduled for February 2017.
