Copenhagen and New York-based think tank BIG is creating a floating island out of these usually unsightly boxes

Student housing is a money drain for the struggling student. Copenhagen and New York-based think tank BIG has found a solution in shipping containers called Urban Riggers.

These large structures can be studio apartments for students. Set on a floating base, it can occupy unused waterways and coastlines. By floating, they're easy to move around and put the limiting cost of urban land irrelevant. The containers will be in clusters of eight, a cul-de-sac of sorts, that can connect to other clusters creating a bigger village.
