Volvo Buses Detect And Honk At Unaware Pedestrians
The Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection System monitors the vehicles' surroundings at all times
Automaker Volvo Buses has unveiled safety technology for unprotected road-users, in the hope of reducing the 1.25 million annual road traffic deaths. The Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection System continuously monitors the buses' surroundings. It uses a camera, image-processing system, and algorithms for the detection of pedestrians and cyclists.
When the system detects nearby road-users, it transmits a sound to warn them that the bus is approaching. It also alerts the driver with sound and light signals inside the vehicle, and the horn is activated if there is an imminent risk of an incident.
