Pedestrian Footsteps Power City Street Lights
EnGoPlanet is an off-the-grid lighting solution being installed in Las Vegas
NYC-based clean tech start-up EnGoPlanet aims to become a leader in off-the-grid lighting solutions. Earlier this month, they finalized their first installation in Las Vegas: street lights powered by pedestrians' footsteps. Through a partnership with the City of Las Vegas, the innovative street lights will illuminate Boulder Plaza, promoting renewable energy sources and lowering installation, energy, and maintenance bills.
Kinetic energy is harvested from footsteps using kinetic energy pads, so when someone steps over a kinetic tile, energy is created and goes directly to the battery. The smart street lights also provide a WiFi internet connection and are equipped with a charging station that has two USB ports and a wireless charging pad incorporated into the pole.
