Drivers can now be notified by their dashboard of personalized retail recommendations, with the ability to pre-purchase products before arriving at a store

General Motors has given the onboard car system, OnStar, an upgrade to further assist drivers on the road. The next OnStar, called OnStar Go, is powered by IBM’s artificial intelligence (AI), IBM Watson, to further understand a driver’s behavior and retail preferences.

By installing Watson, GM will make this the first cognitive mobility platform. Using machine learning, OnStar Go can update drivers regarding surrounding venues of interest, such as nearby gas stations if their vehicle is running low on gas, or a pharmacy if a mother on the hunt for diapers is about to approach one. The same goes for nearby places to eat or shop, with foodies receiving information on restaurants in an area headed by celeb chefs.
