The automates system provides online order pickup to customers in-store

Walmart is piloting a vending machine for online order pickup in its retail stores, making it easier than ever for shoppers to access the full Walmart catalog.

The automatic pickup machine, as the device is called internally, sits at the front of the store and holds several packages inside. When a customer places an online order, he or she receives an order number that can be punched into the machine, which dispenses the item. Despite its large size, the pickup machine is more versatile than click-and-collect package lockers (which Walmart has also trailed) because it optimizes package storage based on item size. Walmart is gathering customer feedback of the machine before scaling it to other locations.
