Autonomous Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans will hit the streets in 2017

Waymo CEO John Krafcik announced the newest addition to their fleet of self-driving cars on Medium on December 18—an adapted Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan.

“With this great new minivan on the road in our test markets, we’ll learn how people of all ages, shapes and group sizes experience our fully self-driving technology,” he said.

Born out of a six months long partnership between Waymo and Fiat Chrystler, the hybrid-powered minivans feature a ground-up integration of the technology, unlike the retrofitted Lexus RX SUVs which Google used for their two million miles of autonomous testing. The new self-driving minivans are slated to hit public roads in 2017.
