Basquiat-Inspired Fashion Line Supports Emerging Talent
The late artist's estate has collaborated with New York label alice+olivia on a new range of designs
The work of neo-expressionist artist Jean-Michel Basquiat will features in a 17-piece collection to promote emerging American fashion designers. Headed up by New York label alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet, the capsule collection aims to support the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s efforts to promote young talent.
Jean-Michel Basquiat rose to prominence in late 1970s Lower-east side Manhattan, during the amalgamation of the hip-hop, post-punk and street art movements. This cultural hotbed saw the emergence of an American art movement, in which Basquiat was entrenched. Before the age of 25, his politically charged graffiti works heralded international acclaim.
