The annual entrance pavilion design was printed using a biodegradable bamboo material

Design Miami/ commissioned NYC-based SHoP Architects to create an outdoor pavilion for the annual design fair. The installation, titled Flotsam & Jetsam was designed to be entirely 3D printed and stands as the current world record holder for largest object yet to be printed.

ShoP’s intention with the installation was to convey two themes. The dynamic shapes of the seating and structure aim to represent the sand patterns and dunes of a relocated beach. The fabrication of Flotsam & Jetsam signals Miami’s emerging standing as a center for creativity and technological discovery.
