The real-life RoboCops can salute, shake hands and collect traffic fines

The world’s first robo police officer, which premiered at the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX), an annual computer and electronic trade show, is set to hit the streets of Dubai in 2017.

Equipped with face-scanning technology, a touchscreen and a microphone that connects to the Dubai Police call centers, the friendly-looking robots will be dispatched to crowded public spaces, such as shopping centers. Their main role will be to assist tourists and allow civilians to report crimes and pay traffic fines.
