Innovation in the fashion industry is at an all-time high, and this designer is using fashion as tool for expression, tolerance and understanding

Inspired by the diversity present in today’s street style, product and accessory designer Teresa Mendler created Merging Cultures, a series of fabrics in which she blends together individual forms of expression and turns them into woven 3D structures.

Born in São Paulo and having lived in Germany and London, Mendler graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands. The textile was designed for her graduate project, which sought to embody how identity and diversity are communicated through what we wear, using garments that remix traditional textiles as a three-dimensional handwoven fabric.
