Anti-Smoking Billboard Reacts When Smokers Walk By

The advertisement has the ability to 'cough' whenever it smells cigarette smoke

A favorable smoking spot in Stockholm now has a billboard designed to encourage people from kicking the habit. Pharmaceutical company Apotek Hjärtat commissioned this billboard to align with the beginning of the New Year, the perfect time to make resolutions. The billboard is unassuming, projecting what seems to be a regular man simply blinking. However, it has hidden smoke detectors that can detect any cigarette smoke. Whenever it does, the man on the screen reacts with loud coughing.

Apotek Hjärtat wants to encourage people to live healthier and longer lives. Although the ad seems to shame smokers, it also can be interpreted as an advertisement that hopes to remind people to harmful effects of secondhand smoking. Whether or not this helps people kick an addictive habit is highly debatable. Nonetheless, it is an interesting approach to interactive advertising.
