Decorator is an app where people can crowdsource expert opinions on interior design

Decorator, a new app for iOS, leverages the power of the crowd by tapping a network of interior design experts to help furnish your new home. Simply snap a picture of your space and upload it to the platform for designers to start offering stylistic, space-saving and perhaps even frugal advice. If you’ve ever wanted a second opinion on how to decorate your new household, this app is the way to go.

With a Snapchat-like interface designed to help convey ideas through drag-and-drop furniture images, comment tagging, changing paint color and sketching over designs, all the feedback you receive is an accurate portrayal of what a particular stylist is envisioning. The app will also keep track of all of the purchasable furniture you’ve been playing around with, and will even help you make a household to-do list to make acquiring new pieces as seamless and headache-free as possible.

Community-Driven Platform

More veteran users will further be able to keep track of milestones within their own home, visualizing all the stages of their redesign, seeing a ‘before’ and ‘after’ back to back composition, and even reminiscing on what design alternatives might have looked like. Users will learn to identify styles and fuse them in an attractive fashion, even ‘leveling up’ as they further immerse themselves within the interior design world.

Besides operating as a mild form of a social media for furniture platform, Decorator also acts as an information hub to school you on what defining characteristics (i.e.: materials, colors and styles) a particular look features. The motivation behind the app isn’t merely to help homeowners visualize how their living rooms come together, but to understand their own aesthetic tastes for future iterations when they’re beginning to replace certain items.

From a company front, the website features plenty of blog entries encompassing a wide range of subjects from ‘Summer DIY Projects’ to ‘Finding Decorating Trends on Instagram’ to help get the creative juices flowing. Decorator also publishes a newsletter to help you stay up to date with current trends and decorating tips.

An expansion into Android’s playing field is currently in the works.
