KFC Is Bringing Gaming To Instagram With A Football Challenge

Ahead of the Super Bowl, Wieden + Kennedy has devised a clever way to turn the social platform into a game

With the Super Bowl less than a month away, KFC is getting in on the football fan-craze by creating an extensive Instagram game. KFC Fried Football Frenzy Challenge utilizes 31 animations and 35 different Instagram accounts to tell the story of a short football game.

The way a user plays is pretty simple: starting from the first post, players then choose the next play, which is a tagged account in the description. From there, the play’s account is set up to look like a football field, with one of the pictures containing an animation on how the action played out. Users continue picking plays until they, hopefully, get a touchdown and win the game. Created with agency Wieden + Kennedy, KFC U.S.’s Director of Advertising, George Felix tells Ad Week, they “wanted to create a unique gaming experience that combines everyone’s love of football, fried chicken and social media.”
