The airline is cementing its commitment to sustainability by making soft blankets from 100% recycled material

In another step toward increased sustainability, Middle Eastern airline company Emirates unveiled new eco-friendly blankets. Made from ecoTHREAD™ patented technology, these plush blankets are made out of recycled bottles.

In partnership with Buzz Creative, Emirates continues its green program with the body-warmers, a program that already uses recycled glass bottles, aluminum cans, and paper products in production of its in-flight offerings.

Each ecoTHREAD™ blanket is made using 28 recycled plastic bottles. These bottles are first recycled into plastic chips and then transformed into yarn. The end result is a polar fleece material that is perfectly suited for the airline's needs, as Emirates has introduced the blankets to its Economy Class passengers for long-haul flights.

Emirates projects that by 2019, they will have used 88 million plastic bottles; that’s the equivalent of 44 A380 airplanes.
