For those shopping on a budget, discounts at the local supermarket can go a long way. Froodly is a new app that makes it easier to find discounts on soon-to-expire food, helping shoppers save money while helping to clear this stock from the shelves.

Shoppers or shop owners simply take a picture of the food, input the discount amount and an alert goes out to those in the area about the discounted product. Discounts can range from 30 to 70 percent off any item and some store even offer bonus deals for the app’s users. While it is available for both iOS and Android, the app currently only works in Finland, but hopefully it will inspire app developers to come up with their own versions for hungry, savvy shoppers worldwide.
