In the spirit of good spirits, online drinks vendor Whisky Blender has partnered with Glasgow-based design agency Front Page to deliver a more customized experience. The former brand, started by dram-lovers Andrew Nicolson and Andy Davidson, was formed to democratize the art of whiskey blending, as articulated by the company’s most recent move.

“Some people are a bit scared of whiskey, like its something you have to know a lot about in order to enjoy,” says Nicolson. But we think that it can—and should—be appreciated by more people, and the idea behind Whisky Blender is that anyone can create a blend, so they get a sense of ownership around something they might have felt was out of their reach at one point. Plus, it’s really fun!’

Tasked with redesigning the entire user interface to reflect a more modern, playful and inclusive nature, Front Page further improved the website’s navigation to help Whiskey Blender better guide customers through the blending process. This direction, promoted through easy-to-follow instructions and crisp visuals further serves to dispel common myths pertaining to the industry while simultaneously educating newbies on various blending options.

Upon testing an assortment of virtual blending lab iterations, the final product spotlights a wheel of blend options coupled with a horizontal bar used to display certain values of the blend’s makeup at any given stage of the process. As you delve deeper into the nuances of your creation, a bottle-shaped silhouette proceeds to fill up in an approximated color of the final product, a means of indicating what the beverage that arrives at your door will look like. Plus, with a retouched checkout experience, you’ll also be able to add multiple items to your basket – an import revamp both for the customer experience and business at large.

Above all else though, Whisky Blender offers a window into the need for consumer personalization, a strong brand presence and a seamless, insightful platform optimized for navigation – especially when you’re targeting an audience that lacks expertise in the industry native to your business. If you’ve ever yearned to flex your deep knowledge of alcoholic beverages during parties, and are someone who learns best through doing, why not order a bespoke whiskey for a great talking piece during your next get-together?
