The photo-sharing platform will soon be rolling out a new feature that lets users interact in a way that's more desirable than a 'like' or a 'follow'

Instagram is a great way to keep up with friends, look at the latest trends, but the app is hoping to increase user interaction with business accounts by allowing them to book appointments right from the app. According to Bloomberg, the feature is set to debut in a few months and will give the 1 million active advertisers and 8 million business profiles on the platform a more concrete way to measure impact and popularity. There will be more features coming down the pipeline, including a review feature. “When someone books an appointment, that's not a ‘like' or a ‘follow,' that's actual action,”

James Quarles, the app's head of business told Bloomberg. This new feature challenges other platforms that offer the ability to book appointments, like Yelp and OpenTable, which lack the aesthetic draw and age-diverse user base that Instagram has.
