Yeti created their own take on a store in Austin, Texas, where customers can have an immersive experience with the brand

No doubt if you're an outdoorsy person, you've heard Yeti—renowned for their trademarked line of coolers. To help grow their brand loyalty, Yeti recently launched their first retail store in Austin, Texas, where customers can swing by not only to purchase Yeti gear, but also have a personal experience with the brand.

The primary goal of the retail store was to get customers to interact with the brand in a way that they haven't done so before. Instead of collaborating with an architecture or retail design firm, Yeti worked with McGarrah Jessee, an independent branding agency who has a rich working history with Yeti.

Due to the goals of the executives at Yeti, McGarrah Jessee took the retail store's design into a new direction. What they came up with more closely resembles a museum than a store as it displays a famous boat crafted by fisherman Flip Pallot, the original backyard BBQ pit of legendary Austin pitmaster Aaron Franklin and a “YETI Vs.” exhibit that shows off the resilience of the YETI cooler by placing it in extraordinary conditions. A Tundra display, which includes the back half of a truck, allows customers to place coolers in the tailgate to see which size Tundra is right for them.

While customers do have the chance to purchase Yeti sports gear and coolers at the store, the prices are only available upon request. The true experience for customers revolves around the displays and exhibits inside. The primary reason Yeti did this was to not harm their biggest customers: other retailers. Because these retailers purchase these items elsewhere, creating a retail store for the gear doesn't make sense for the company. If a customer wishes to visit the Yeti retail store, they're going to go in and have a completely different experience than if they were wanting to solely purchase equipment.

Yeti's flagship store in Austin, Texas opened on February 23, 2017.
