Notifica allows its users to select their contacts with pre-written messages to send out in case of an emergency

An engineer for the San Francisco-based ad agency Huge, Natalia Margolis, designed a portable panic button called Notifica for immigrants who find themselves caught in a panic raid.

The concept stems from the reality that when ICE takes an individual away, all their other responsibilities remain unattended; their kids, their jobs, household obligations and so forth. Bearing that in mind, Margolis thought that even if she couldn't develop a way to prevent deportation altogether, she'd take off some of the stress.

Huge got immediately on board, and a day later they released the Notifica app. The app's website lets users know in English and Spanish if they should prepare themselves.

“Be prepared with Notifica, an app that sends out secure messages to your support network when you need it most,” it says.

Notifica allows its users to select their contacts with pre-written messages to send out in case of an emergency. The messages can be different from contact to contact. All messages are protected with a PIN number, so only the user can access them.
