The company wants to help their users to have a restful night's sleep by tracking their motion and heart rate

The Fitbit has become renowned for tracking users' steps and encouraging them to increase their time spent working out. Now, the fitness company wants track how much sleep a Fitbit wearer gets with the goal of them achieving seven hours of sleep a night.

While a Fitbit device already tracks a user's sleep, the company plans on adding two new modes to select devices: Sleep Stages and Sleep Insights. The Sleep Stages tool observes the user's sleep, showing how it changes throughout a night using the heart rate monitor and motion tracker. The Sleep Insight tool provide information, using the data from Sleep Stages, on how a user can improve their sleeping patterns.

Those who have the Fitbit Alta HR, Fitbit Charge 2, or the Fitbit Blaze will have access to these features in the future.
