Taking out that extra step that’s been costing brands valuable profits, MikMak ( a platform that creates video commerce experiences) has launched the MikMak Attach, which lets users shop right on Instagram or Snapchat while engaging with the content.

Social media marketing has been hailed as necessary to build trust and brand awareness, but determining a quantifiable ROI (increased sales to most businesses) via social engagement has always been a tough one for marketers. MikMak looks to be a promising game changer, allowing users to stay on their social platforms while completing the sale at the same time.

The company has been quietly beta testing their product with renowned brands such as GoPro, Birchbox, Beautyblender, Dr. Brandt Skincare, and SheaMoisture. According to a MikMak press release, Dr. Brandt Skincare saw a 500% lift in direct sales conversion from Instagram within the first ten days of adding MikMak Attach to its Instagram Stories. “In addition to reducing friction between social media and direct checkout for our eCommerce, our customers are enjoying watching and shopping through this experience,” said Stephane Colleu, president and CEO of Dr. Brandt skincare.

It seems to be that video is truly the future of the Internet, and e-commerce needs to evolve and adapt as well. “By 2019, 85% of internet traffic will come from video viewing,” said Rachel Tipograph, Founder & CEO of MikMak. “Today, eCommerce is not designed for the distributed social video web, as a result, MikMak is rebuilding commerce for the social video generation, retailers and brands.”

The “attach” is user-friendly. To shop via MikMak you just have to swipe up while watching the Snapchat story or Instagram video, and the attach will pop up on your screen (without redirecting you away from the social platform). It serves as a connection between the video and the brand’s e-commerce site, by clicking add to cart through the attach you can complete the transaction.

It also lets businesses capitalize on missed opportunities. If a user abandons the transaction during the session, the item remains in the brand’s owned cart so the user can checkout through the actual web page, or the brand can choose to re-market the same product to that user.
