Samsung’s Italy-based group makes it easier for those who have aphasia to communicate in text messages by creating an application called Wemogee that turns simple phrases into emojis. Those who have aphasia have difficulty speaking, writing, or reading, however, it does not affect their cognition and pictures allow them to communicate, making simple emoji translation a helpful tool.

With the application installed, the user with aphasia has a list of emojis they can send someone instead of text in messages. When received by another who does not have aphasia, they instead see text and when the user with aphasia receives texts the application translates them into emojis. These pictures can cover over 140 different day-to-day topics, such as conveying how they feel, what they’d like to eat or how they want to spend their day. The emojis in the application are not Samsung’s standard ones, instead it uses larger and more simplified ones for communication purposes.

Wemogee released for free on the Google Play Store.
