London and Milan residents had the chance to virtually dine together thanks to the food delivery application Deliveroo

UK food delivery app Deliveroo gave British diners the chance to share dinner with an Italian date—all without having to step foot on a plane. UK foodies gathered on London's Southbank for the experience, Milan Upon Thames, in which locals were given the chance to go on a virtual dinner date with an Italian foodie.

The idea behind the event came from a survey that found a quarter of Brits were too nervous to eat messy Italian dishes like spaghetti on a dinner date. Through Milan Upon Thanes, diners ere given the chance to live chat with real Italians who gave them pointers on how to eat the sauce-laden dish without making a mess.

Deliveroo held the event through a partnership with Three Mobile's rewards app Wuntu. Italian restaurant Rossopomodoro wass the participating food vendor, offering dishes from their bespoke menu.

The event took place April 19 and 20.
