DrnkPay puts a hold on a person's credit card once a certain number have been consumed

One notoriously damaging effect of alcohol is its ability to make limited resources seem infinite. Once the libations hit the brain, it’s easier to split the wallet, hand the plastic and buy another round of expensive drinks for everyone in the club. This is why iBe TSE made the DrnkPay. By locking your cards shut when you get too drunk, this app protects you from inebriated overspending.

DrnkPay does exactly the opposite of its name. The app stops users from paying. To use, users must nominate their existing cards to the service and set it up before they head out for their first sip. A limit, for example, three pints of beer, can be set by the user.

At the bar, payment will only be successful if these two conditions are fulfilled: the drink limit has not been reached and a connected breathalyzer says you can still take some more. When one condition is violated, the app will block the cards for 12 hours. Users can specify on the app which type of establishments the card will stop working on.

PSFK has recently seen a wave of innovations that try to make night outs just a touch safer and more responsible. There’s this breathalyzer that works with your phone, a proximity app so you never get left behind by your buddies and a ride-sharing app that’s specifically for ferrying you around Paris at nighttime.DrnkPay also integrates another important function during a night out: ordering an Uber home.

The creator, iBe TSE, is a financial services provider in Europe. Right now, the company is yet to release a working version of the app. Because the app will need cooperation with banks, iBe TSE says it could be 12 months before the app reaches stores and it could be offered by the banks themselves.

With DrnkPay, fewer Saturdays will be wasted regretting that $300 dollar bottle of vodka you barely remember swiping for.
